Big Boy

Pin It So far we have gotten the thumbs up on apple purée, apple/banana purée and carrot purée. Avocado... Not so much. This makes me sad. I guess I'm going to have to mix it in with something sweeter.... This momma wants him to eat his avocado because:
A. They are a baby nutrition bomb
B. We are very fortunate to have unlimited access to free avocados

So eat your avvies boy!!!

Corn Fed

Man Cub is 5 months old today. He is wearing 12 month PJ's in this picture and they don't even look loose. He is almost entirely breast fed with the exception of one solids meal a day (following a breastfeeding, not yet replacing) at dinner time. Corn fed indeed.

Allergy Update

Well, it's been a while since Sofia's had a reaction, so we decided to test out her allergy. I gave her the smallest piece of cheese, I'm saying... The size of an Advil. At the time, she didn't seem to react. The next day I gave her a little more, about the size if a quarter. Again, no visible reaction. This morning I gave her about a teaspoon of yogurt.... No visible reaction.

But, before you get excited, let me tell you that hindsight is 20/20. Looking back over the last three days, I can tell you that she did indeed react. However, the three days have to be taken together to see the pattern (see how annoying food allergies can be?!).

All three days she has woken up from her nap extremely emotional. Hysterical even. Both nights following a day where she received dairy she woke up at 4am crying and had to be put back to sleep and then proceeded to wake up an hour early.

To add to it, the last two days she has had soft BMs and although faint, I am now noticing red patches on her cheeks.

So yes, our sweet girl is still allergic to dairy.

We're Moving!

It's official! We're moving!

We've lived in our little condo for two and a half years now and it has gone from being our sweet little home to a shoebox busting at the seams.

After months of praying for a home for our little family, and not knowing what that would look like, we were presented with the opportunity to rent a beautiful three bedroom home from some friends of ours from church. We are so excited to move. We have known about this for almost a month now, but we finally set a date to move in on July 1st so I guess we can start getting excited and talking about it!

July 1st can't come fast enough!

We are in need of some items if anyone has anything laying around/in storage that they don't need/want anymore:

1. BOXES!! Lots of them!
2. Washer & dryer
3. Bedroom furniture - we would really like to find a king size bed, but are especially in need of a dresser, side tables .... that sort of thing
4. A large area rug in neutral color/s
5. A toddler back yard play structure (little house etc.), we don't mind if it is old and faded!

Well, hair styling does run in the family. Maybe Sofia's just starting young... either way, her poor brother is getting the brunt of it.

First Growth

Pin It Pumpkins! We have almost all of our corn popping through as well, some a good 2" tall in just under 2 weeks! We've also spotted two watermelon plants. It's funny how excited I can get over the first sight of growth, I love it.

WHAT-itis? Lets just say... clogged milk duct, fever, aches, weakness, huge lump in breast... yay! Not.

Yes, we missed a feeding and yes, this was the very UN-FUN result.

Things always happen to me on the weekends. But that's okay because I was able to handle it naturally... praise the Lord!

Of course, I had big plans this day and wasn't able to follow through on any of them because I could barely move my body (grateful as always, for a VERY helpful husband), but thankfully with lots of rest, hot compress, massage and breast feeding every 2 hours, I was able to remedy the problem.

Did you know you can make an awesome hot compress one of two ways: A. using rice in a sock or a sewn case and heating in the microwave (stays hot for a good long time!) OR B. filling a disposable diaper with hot water! Both work VERY well!

Thanks for the awesome, natural, pro-breast feeding advice. I love this website for breast feeding related information. Just like anything, you have to weed through the opinions, but they do have great advice on handling breast feeding issues.

I'm Teething...

Pin It Knox is getting both of his bottom canines right now, easiest teeth first.... Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing haha. So far we've managed to stay medicine free! I am planning to pick up some Highlands Teething Tabs next time I go to Target. **homeopathic love** Yes, they really are the best.

This Boy Loves Food

Pin It We started Knox on solids this week. First I started with a little infant oatmeal (which I didn't do with Sofia, but I was thinking it would be easier to digest than veggie/fruit purées). Unfortunately the oatmeal backed him up (for 4 days!) so we switched to apple purée and, well, let's just say it did its job. Four days worth to be exact. Oh I love being a Momma.

Oatmeal or apple purée, Knox loves it all. He just loves food. He is such a good eater! He gobbles his food down, barely spitting any of it out. He leans into the spoon and gets really excited when he's eating. I love it!

I have some organic carrots in the fridge, I'm excited to make some carrot purée, I'm sure he'll love it. I am even more excited for our garden, Knox is going to have plenty of homegrown organic chow this summer!

A Month in Waiting

Ah, I've taken another unintentional sabbatical. This keeps happening doesn't it? Well, if you know me well, you probably realize that my absence from the blogosphere means that I am soldiering through something in the real world. It's like clockwork. Annnnnnd.... I now have a million unfinished posts. Okay, maybe not a million, but a good handful at least.
If you've signed up to follow by e-mail then I apologize in advance because you are about to get a bunch of retro blog posts. Not fun, I know.

We are dealing with a lot right now, from various angles, both bad and good and well, sometimes I just have to keep my head in the real world and out of the land of blogs. It makes me sad because I love to write, but a person can only juggle so much.

I am going to work on regaining my consistency and moving forward. I know that you are used to me laying it all out on the table, because that is my nature, I don't mind if you see my dirty laundry (figuratively speaking, not my real dirty laundry... that I do mind!) because to me a person is like a work of art painted over many years, the good and the bad are all necessary layers adding to the final piece and are crucial to seeing and understanding the entirety of the story. We all know I like to know how things are made (wink). Many of the things we are currently experience are either too premature to talk about or are not our story to tell, so bare with me.

Garden Update

Our garden is a work in progress. There are many things still to do, but the planting is done and we can work on the little things now such as wood-chipping the walk ways, building a fence to keep out the rabbits, fertilizing, weeding etc. April planting makes way for May growth.

Cucumbers, zucchini, summer squash, romaine, banana peppers, rosemary, parsley, oregano, chives, sage & thyme.

Tomatoes (Roma, Cherry, Better Boy & Early Girl), bell peppers and basil.

You can't tell from this angle, but I'm wearing Knox in my Ergo. The two boxes closest contain two varieties of carrots, beets and sweet corn over here on the right.

Other crops on the far end include: cantaloupe, watermelon, pumpkins, pole (blue lake) beans, onions, russets and bush (pinto) beans. When the weather heats up more I will plant sweet potatoes (currently working on the slips).
